Auld Lang Syne

Here we are, once again.  Reconciling where we’ve been as we pave the path that lies ahead, held together by that which means the most to us.

Before I get all gushy and philosophical, I must first apologize for the delay in posting.  As I wrote my next article, it morphed into a larger-than-anticipated topic.  To conform with Paralegal Support 101’s mission to provide short, quick read articles, the topic necessarily turned into a mini-series, no part of which was wholly complete without the others.  That series is forthcoming.

The articles are just another example of time gone by.  Time seems to go by faster every year. And, every year seems to bring more goals and plans that we struggle to achieve.  Before we know it (and before we recover from the holidays), we’ll be commenting on how hard it is to believe that January is over.  Then it will be March.  Then the end of the summer.  Before you know it, we’ll realize the holidays are right around the corner.  Again.

The question is, will we do what matters most to us?  Remember old friends. Make new ones. Spend more time with family.  Give back.  Contribute.  Grow personally.  Professionally.  Or will we get caught up in the daily grind, as is so easily done time and time again?

I’m fortunate that my work allows me to conduct business in more than one location, as this past year afforded me the opportunity to pursue business travel for the first time ever and spend more time with family.  But even though the focus of my work is helping attorneys and their clients, a strong concentration this year on professional development and the business-side of things has left me lacking fulfillment.  So, this coming year I’ll be focusing more on client work, committee work, and community involvement, as I continue to spend time with family, reconnect with old friends, and get to know the new ones I’ll meet through my activities.  I’m looking forward to a fulfilling year, although it’s one that I know will be personally challenging.

As for Paralegal Support 101, I plan to publish the next few articles a bit quicker than usual to make up for lost time and get back on track.  Until then, I thought I’d share this TED Talk with you, which was timely shared with me.

I wish you great health, happiness, and success in 2014.  As always, try not to get so caught up in every day life that you lose sight of that which matters most.  Have a wonderful New Year!
